Charity Partner 2:
With the severe degradation of the local environment, the Malewa Trust focuses on introducing environmental education and sustainable land use options to adult community members and local primary schools.
The Malewa Trust is located in the spectacular Gilgil area of Kenya. It has been working on renovating and building two primary schools in order to improve the local learning facilities and initiating environmental clubs and developing tree nurseries.
Their community liaison officer also runs a very dynamic environmental education programme, the Pan African Conservation Education (PACE) which helps to teach local students about the environment from an African perspective. The Malewa Trust is also seeking partners to assist in the development of an IT centre and vocational training facilities to improve the livelihood of young people from the neighbourhood.
Renovation of school buildings, water tanks, pit latrines and kitchens using eco-friendly blocks. Developing the school grounds, planting tree nurseries and educational work in the schools.
Running and hosting a community Environmental Education Day at Malewa Bush Camp for students from the local secondary school. Working with children from the nursery schools to help them practice English.
We include a 2 day safari to Lake Naivasha and Nakuru National park to look for elephants, lion, giraffe and leopard as well as a trek up Mount Longonot.
You will be staying in the Malewa Bush camp in basic but comfortable accommodation with water and electricity and a main communal building. The accommodation consists of tents, with a local cook and guards to look after the team.
