Charity Partner 1:
Save the Elephants ‘Elephants and Bees’ Project
Save the Elephants ‘Elephants and Bees Project ‘is an innovative study using an in-depth understanding of elephant behaviour to reduce damage from crop-raiding elephants using their instinctive avoidance of African honey bees.
The project explores the use of novel Beehive Fences as a natural elephant deterrent creating a social and economic boost to poverty-stricken rural communities through pollination services and the sustainable harvesting of “Elephant-Friendly Honey.”
The main focus of your time will be to work with a specific village to help them construct a beehive fence. This will be physical work, working alongside local skilled field staff and villagers in rural Kenyan villages.
We include a 2 day safari to Tsavo National Park to look for elephants, lion, giraffe and leopard.
You will be staying in the community camp in basic but comfortable accommodation – i.e. no running water or electricity. The accommodation would consist of tents – with a local cook and guards to look after the team.
