Joshua Orphan and Community Care
Supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children & Community Development
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. There are an estimated 1 million orphans living in Malawi.
Joshua aims to help provide a safe and secure living environment for orphans, vulnerable children and their families; to ensure good basic education and health care; and to help facilitate the provision of clean, fresh water supplies wherever possible.
On this project you will be responsible for completing a variety of projects that will make a real difference to the children and communities of Malawi, providing them with the chance to improve their access to basic healthcare facilities and in doing so to give them the opportunity to succeed in life.
Examples of projects:
Building a kitchen where the orphaned children can receive food, renovating one of the feeding centres or classrooms at a local primary school, or working with the local Youth Group to help to fix the homes of elderly residents. There will also be plenty of opportunity to spend time with the local Youth Group on drama, sports and art.
We include a 2 day safari to Liwonde National Park, where the group will do game drives and take a sunset boat cruise along the Shire River.
You will be staying in the heart of the community in basic but comfortable accommodation – often with no running water or electricity. The accommodation consists of mattresses/beds in a simple local rented house or with a local cook and guards to look after the team.
